Wanted: A kids’ choir

A THEATRE company is desperately seeking a children's choir for a summer show after a clash of dates forced the original singers to pull out.

The group, called Debut, has been rehearsing with young performers from the local Stage Door drama school for the show at Oswaldtwistle Civic Theatre.

But they had to pull out when they discovered the show dates clashed with their drama exams.

Roger Nuttall, founder of Debut, a theatre company for young adults, is now looking for a group of young singers to take to the stage with them for two numbers.

They will be asked to perform When Children Rule the World and The Vaults of Heaven, both from the musical Whistle Down the Wind.

The show is being billed as an evening of music, dance and drama, on Friday, June 30, and Saturday, July 1.

We desperately need a choir to rescue us

Roger, 22, of Wittlewood Drive, Accrington, said: "We did have a group of children who were meant to be doing it from Stage Door, but they have had to pull out.

"So we desperately need a choir of children to come to our rescue.

"The only requirement is that they are enthusiastic and want to sing on stage."

They would be asked to attend around three or four rehearsals leading up to the performance to perfect the songs.

Debut, which is based at the Thwaites Empire Theatre, Blackburn, was set up last summer.

Roger, who is due to graduate with a degree in drama from Manchester University in the summer, felt that was a gap in the local amateur dramatic scene for a group for young adults with a passion for the theatre.

In the future he hopes to expand the company to include a drama school.
