Lancashire is a business breeding ground

Downtown Preston In Business recently held its second Sexy Networking event.

Special guest was Adam Hosker, famous - especially locally - as a contestant in the most recent series of The Apprentice.

In front of about 100 attendees I interviewed Adam - who was brought up in the Preston area - about his time on the hit show, and what Sir Alan was really like.

What stood out for me, and for several of those in attendance, was the spirit of entrepreneurialism alive and well in Adam.

At 27, he has become a successful salesman in the motor trade - one of the most cut-throat imaginable - and survived seven weeks of a high pressure television show.

Adam is not alone. Lancashire is a breeding ground for young businesspeople determined to do their best and carve a name for themselves.

There are some fantastic, interesting start-ups and many of the local councils do a great job supporting new business - be it through grants or advice.

As a group, Downtown is committed to working with the private sector to improve the area as a place to do business.

Supporting small business is a very important part of this and I was delighted to see Adam Hosker had not let Sir Alan put him off!
