The business community in many parts of Lancashire is suffering thanks to the recent unseasonal weather.
The Royal Lancashire Show, a major tourist attraction across the region, has been cancelled after it was feared vehicles trying to enter the showground would have simply sunk into the mud.
In Blackburn the annual Arts in the Park event, and the popular Mela, were also cancelled because of the rain.
Downtown Preston In Business members have approached me and asked, what can we do to prepare so things like this do not affect us again?
The simple answer unfortunately, is not much!
I admire what some have done - in Chatburn Hudson's Ice Cream is celebrating its 60th birthday, but rather than let the weather spoil the celebrations staff marked the diamond jubilee by singing in the rain, and the firm has resorted to offering free drinks and sandwiches to entice them in.
When preparing for an outdoor event, it is always necessary to have a contingency plan in place - whether this be simply to cancel it or move it indoors like the Arts in the Park team in Blackburn have done, using King George's Hall for some acts instead.
Much of Lancashire is rural, which makes it perfect for large, outdoor events during the summer months.
However, this also makes its economy susceptible to sudden changes in the weather.
