The death of her beloved dad has spurred a Tesco store worker to run the Cancer Research UK's Race for Life.
Lorna Farrow, of Mawdesley, near Chorley, wants to raise awareness of cancer after she lost her father Cyril Carton to the disease two years ago.
Lorna, 56, who works as a customer assistant at Tesco in Leyland, was hit by tragedy when her 83-year-old dad lost his ten-year battle against prostate cancer, leukaemia and melanoma.
She said: "I want to do my bit and this is a good way of raising money for a very worthy cause.
"I hope that the money raised will go some way towards finding a preventative cure to cancer and fund research into treatment for all types of the disease."
She added: "I think my dad would be proud of me taking part as this is the first time I have ever done anything like this.
"I also want to take part because I want to try and help other families so that they don't have to go through the same as we did when we lost our dad."
A team of more than 20 women from the supermarket in Towngate will be taking part in the race in Preston on Sunday, June 22, in Moor Park. Leyland's Worden Park will play host to two races on Sunday, July 6. So far 1374 women have signed up to the Preston race and 1479 women for Leyland.
Organiser of the Preston event, Nelson Laurencia, said: "Lorna is a great example to all of us. "She has lost a person who was very dear to her and it is incredible that she is taking part and supporting Cancer Research UK."
