YOU would have thought that the TV series based on a celebrities travelling around the country would have run its course by now.

We've had Billy Connolly on his tricycle, David Dimbleby and his Land Rover, Griff Rhys-Jones gurning his way over mountain ranges, even opera babe Katherine Jenkins raving about beaches in Wales.

But along comes Hagrid in a classic Jaguar and suddenly the whole concept has been reinvigorated.

Robbie Coltrane's B-Road Britain works simply because it's got Robbie Coltrane in it.

This giant bear of a man has the innate ability to make whatever he is doing entertaining - whether it's chasing killers as Cracker or fronting a rock and roll band in Tutti Frutti.

As a travel guide, the man's a natural communicator. Given the free reign to bring his own personality on to his subjects rather than have to stick to a sanitised script also seems to help.

B-Road Britain quite cleverly stays away from the more obvious sights and sounds of the UK and concentrates on the weird and wonderful - perfect for Mr Coltrane's sardonic sense of humour.

Having most recently appeared in the Harry Potter movies, the only thing he needed to complete his trip was a baby dragon.
