FORGET I'm A Celebrity .... if it's real life in the jungle you want to watch on your TV, tune in to Tribe on BBC2.

The genial Bruce Parry returned last night to sample the really wild experience, living with one of the world's remotest tribes in the Amazon.

Bruce's geography teacher demeanour belies his tough inner self.

Not for him standing on the sidelines observing a strange world through the eyes of a lens as though he was some exotic package tourist.

Somehow you can't imagine that Bruce is the sort of person who looks forwards to two weeks in Spain sampling a few lagers and trying to catch the odd football match on the TV while he tops up his tan.

No, our Bruce is one of those people who likes to get stuck in'.

And so, for our entertainment and enlightenment, he endured having frog poison rubbed into his wounds which made him violently - and extremely noisily - sick and tree sap dropped into his eyes.

It was painful just watching him. And yet, because he endured all these strange rituals, he became accepted into the Matis tribe and as a result we learned a great deal about their life in one of the most dangerous environments on earth.

If you can stand watching Bruce suffer, it's quality television.
