Review: Prototype, PS3, £49.99

Prototype is a further addition to the recent flurry of over-the-top open-world adventures, this time with super-powers that would make Grand Theft Auto IV’s Niko Bellic run for cover.

It puts you in control of Alex Mercer, a shapeshifter with amazing powers of combat, destruction and deception.

From consuming targets for their form and memories to assume a perfect disguise, to instantly transforming your body into an array of deadly biological weapons, this is a serious departure from your regular arsenal and makes the carnage you create in the vibrant, virtual New York all the more jaw-dropping and enjoyable.

It’s certainly a gaming experience you need to fully immerse yourself in to appreciate, and not like anything you’ve played before.

A nigh-on perfect action adventure, whichever way you choose to play it.
