Games review: Dark Void (PS3, £39.99)

Even though Sean Connery’s jet-pack in From Russia With Love looked like something crafted from the cast-offs on the floor after the filming of a Blue Peter episode, the sheer thought of donning this flying machine was enough to set your pulse racing.

Fast-forward 45 years to this sci-fi action romp and that remodelled rocket-pack is your ticket to an incredible combination of in-air and on-ground combat as you battle to hold off an alien force hell-bent on taking down Earth.

The dogfights are intense, and it certainly takes 3D action to a whole new frantic level, with a vertical combat system allowing you to dangle from thousand foot drops as you take cover and drop enemies from above and below.

Battling on the ground sometimes seems a little tame in the game after the aerial thrills, but overall this is a fab flying adventure that you should definitely give a whirl.
