THE 2010/11 season opener for Blackburn Drama Club will be 1940s-set comedy Love’s A Luxury, from October 21 to 23.

Love’s A Luxury has been described by the club as ‘Carry On Camping meets Some Like Hot’, with a bunch of theatricals escaping to the country.

Charles Pentwick, played by Robert Talbot, is a flamboyant and successful theatre prod-ucer – and a very lucky man, surrounded by gorgeous act-resses and chorus girls.

His only problem is a jealous and suspicious wife (Jacqui Mooney), but she’s got reason.

Charles and his actor friend Bobby Bentley (Matthew Joll-ey) flee to a country cottage, expecting to be greeted bythe housekeeper (Sheila Burrill) – only to find her pretty daughter Molly (Rueska Shellin) in her place, whose eyes alight with delight on Bobby.

To make matters worse, the French starlet Fritzy Villiers (Claire St Pierre), who fancies Charles, decends.

Add to the mix Charles’ love-sick son Dick (Mark Duxbury), and dotty Scout master Mr Mole (Brian Healey), and events soon spiral out of control.

The Guy Paxton and Edward V Hoile play is directed by Paul Mason.

* Love's A Luxury is at Thwaites Empire Theatre, Blackburn, from Thursday, October 21 until Saturday, October 23 at 7.30pm. Tickets £9 from 01254 685500.
