IMAGINE, if you will, an Alan Partridge without the self-awareness, humility and maturity of Steve Coogan’s creation, and you have Count Arthur Strong.

A veteran of Radio 4, the fictional former light entertainment “star” (played by actor-comedian extraordinaire Steve Delaney) is out on the road this time to try to persuade the royal family to have him appear at their annual Variety Show.

However, his muddled rendition of the Deck Of Cards song, or the truly terrible ventriloquist routine is unlikely to have the bookers rushing to the phone.

For the punters in the audience, however, it’s guaranteed laugh-a-minute stuff.

* Count Arthur Strong is at The Lowry, Salford on Sunday, March 13, Monday, March 14 and Tuesday, March 15; Empire Theatre, Liverpool on Monday, March 21; and Mechanics, Burnley, on Wednesday, April 6.
