It was on the reservation things
were being stolen from the Indian chief's wigwam,
And the man who came under suspicion
was known as Cherokee Sam.
They caught him one night, all the tribe
saw him entering the chief's tepee,
He had fallen into the trap they had set for him
It would be a long time before being set free.
He was sentenced to five years hard labour And to prison he was sent,
For he had pleaded guilty in court
To loitering within tent.
