East Lancashire record store is a hit with The Cribs

AN INDEPENDENT record store chain in East Lancashire has scored the coup of selling a limited edition new album.

The Cribs, including new guitarist Johnny Marr, of The Smiths fame, have released their new album Ignore The Ignorant as a Roses Edition box-set at Townsend Records, which has stores in Church, Clitheroe and Great Harwood as well as Leyland.

The band decided to support independent stores like Townsends by releasing the Roses Edition exclusively in their home regions of Yorkshire, Lancashire and Portland, Oregon USA.

Each area has the rose as the emblem of the county or state.

Sales director at Townsend Records Bruce McKenzie said he was delighted and described how the firm’s involvement was the result of supporting up and coming artists.

He said: “We had worked with The Cribs before.

“We launched our website 12 years ago and have used it to champion local bands over the years.

"Since then we’ve gradually found ourselves working with bigger artists such as Moby and Kasabian.

“It was around 12 months ago we began working with The Cribs, then Johnny Marr got involved and the idea of putting out an exclusive album came from there.”

“Small record stores don’t do things the way large chains do and I think the website and everything we’ve done since was a good move really because people expect us to do things a bit differently.”

The Roses Edition consists of an exclusive black box which houses a special edition of the CD album, a Making of... documentary DVD, plus an exclusive live (audio only) bootleg from the band’s show at Manchester Ritz earlier this year.

This version of the album will only be available in selected independent record shops in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Portland. For more information and to order the Roses Edition visit the website below.

I hope Towsend's records have improved their service since I last dealt with them and to suggest the Cribs are an up and coming band with Johnny Marr headlining them just about sums up Townsends.Hype
