OPENING with a couple of Yes classics in the form of Starship Trooper and Sweet Dreams to get us in the mood, Prog-rock giants Anderson and Wakeman showed that there is indeed life after Yes.

Anderson had a couple of guitars and his incredible, soaring voice whilst Wakeman used just two keyboards and managed to sound in parts like a concert orchestra.

Most of the duo’s latest album The Living Tree was given an airing (in fact they omitted just one track) and the song 23-24-11 about a soldier counting down the days until he goes home had added poignancy as it was the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

There was of course the friendly banter between the two kindred spirits with Rick telling a few jokes and doing a bit of clowning around.

The music performed was sublime and the YES numbers were splendid in their stripped-down format, especially South Side Of The Sky and Turn Of The Century (after a couple of false starts).

The highlight of the Yes numbers was a reggae version of their early song Time And A Word.

Ovations were also richly deserved for And You And I, Roundabout and Your Move which had the audience singing along.

The new tracks were proof that their music together is just as exciting, with The Living Tree and The Garden deserving special mention.

What a wonderful night: two men, two minds, but one spectacular musical vision.
