One Direction have been greeted by huge crowds as they touched down in Japan.

The X Factor boyband - Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Liam Payne - donned matching red kimonos after they arrived at Narita Airport in Tokyo.

"Kon nichi wa Japan," the band tweeted.

Niall added: "Airport was crazy! Big love to japanese fans. I love this country! such a laugh! Amazing sashimi we had yesterday! Incredible!"

A source told the Daily Mirror that the boyband were "blown away" by the reception from their Japanese fans.

"They're used to being mobbed now but they didn't expect the Japanese reception to be so huge. It's obvious to them that they genuinely are a worldwide phenomenon."

The group have been jetting around since the beginning of the new year. They have just returned from a Comic Relief trip to Ghana, before they flew out to Asia.

They went to the capital Accra to meet people in poverty who receive donations and support from Comic Relief, and footage from the chart-toppers' visit will form the video for their charity cover of Blondie's One Way Or Another, to be released at the end of the month.
