Meningitis Research Foundation thanks supporters

I am writing on behalf of Meningitis Research Foundation to thank everyone from the North West who participated in our Meningitis B Aware Campaign on 15 –21 September.

Members and supporters all across the region undertook various activities to raise awareness of the dangers of meningitis and septicaemia.

As a result of their work, hundreds of free B Aware symptoms packs have been requested by the public through our Freefone 24 hour helpline – 080 8800 3344 – or website, www.meningitis.org, and more are still coming in today.

The aim of the week was to raise awareness of the dangers of meningitis and septicaemia, the blood poisoning form, and provide free symptoms packs to the public.

There are 9 cases of the disease every day in the UK with a death almost every day and a further 2 people will be left with life-altering after effects as severe as brain damage, deafness and multiple amputations.

Knowing the symptoms and acting fast will save lives.

The campaign was aided by the dedication of Foundation members – people with experience of meningitis and septicaemia.

Our members gave up their time to help the Foundation by putting on fundraising events and by sharing their experience of meningitis with the media.

Public support is vital to our cause as only one per ent of our income comes from government funding.

We rely almost entirely on voluntary donations to continue funding vital research into meningitis and septicaemia, raising awareness of the diseases and providing support for those affected.

For more information on how you can help raise funds or awareness or to receive a free symptoms awareness pack call 01454 281811.

Pin A Collacott.
