At the moment all we hear about is the credit crunch, houses being repossessed, families deep in debt.
I read recently that one in every nine houses in the UK is in debt.
The apparent shortage of money puts a great strain on married couples. Many contemplate suicide and I am afraid some succeed.
The reason for my letter was because up until a few years ago, I was in this position, but I was lucky to be put in touch with a charity called Christians Against Poverty, which was started ten years ago in Bradford.
The aim of the charity is to get people out of debt over a period of time, and also in that time to teach the person in debt how to handle and budget money.
All debt advice given by this organisation is absolutely free. It now has 82 branches, you can find out if there is a branch near you by looking at their website www.capuk.org or ringing 0800 328 0006. Last year over 4,000 families were brought out of debt by the charity concerned.
