Three Coventry City fans have admitted being involved in violent clashes which broke out after the club's match with Preston North End.

Daniel Rampton, 21, of Tomellis Court, Hayes Lane, Exhall, Michael Freeman, 23, of Harefield Road, Stoke, Coventry, and Sean Teeling, 18, of Clovelly Road, Wyken, Coventry, all pleaded guilty to affray, at Coventry Magistrates' Court on February 6.

They all pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour after the game at Coventry's Ricoh Arena on September 1 last year.

The defendants were arrested in January after police released CCTV images of 12 people they wanted to question in connection with the disturbance between rival fans.

Sentencing was adjourned until February 27.

They have all been granted unconditional bail.

Violence erupted following the match as fans threw stones at coaches full of North End supporters outside the ground.

One bus packed with PNE fans had a window smashed, and glass was cracked in another.

Two stewards suffered minor injuries in the disturbances, and several were verbally abused by supporters.

Another steward, Martin Harris, 51, who had been assisting with crowd control during the violence collapsed outside the ground and died in hospital from a heart attack.

But police have confirmed his death was not connected to the violence.

As well as a criminal conviction, police will be seeking football banning orders for anyone who is found guilty of being involved in the violent clashes.

Anyone with information should call CID at Stoney Stanton Road police station on 0845 113 5000.
