Preston's old faithful ironmongers, Slingers, is celebrating its 150th anniversary by helping some of city's most vulnerable people.

The ironmonger, in Paley Road, Preston, is donating 50 viewers and door chains to Preston Police to distribute to members of the community most in need.

Slingers are joining forces with Preston Care and Repair Limited who will fit the items providing the criteria is met.

"R Slinger and Son Ltd are very proud to be celebrating 150 years of trading and this is a small gift back to the community who have used our services during some of those years."

PCSO Barbara Gornall said: "In my role of police community support officer, it is my job to identify and respond to the needs of the neighbourhoods I serve.

"The dedicated Neighbourhood Policing Team provides support and reassurance across the city, in particular, to the elderly and vulnerable within those neighbourhoods.

"This generous donation of security devices from Slingers Ironmongers, one of Preston's longest established companies, will go a long way in supporting our efforts, making our residents feel safer in their homes and we very much appreciate this partnership initiative."
