Stonyhurst College students found by Caribbean police

Preston and Leyland Citizen: Edward Bunyan Edward Bunyan

THE two Stonyhurst College students who fled to the Caribbean last Monday has been found safe and well.

Edward Bunyan, 16 and his girlfriend Indira Gainiyeva, 17, were found at a hotel in the Punta Cana area of the Dominican Republic by local police at 11pm last night.

Lancashire Police have said that plans are currently being made for the pair to return to the UK.

The couple left the 400-year-old school last Monday at 3am and were caught on CCTV at Manchester Airport before boarding an indirect flight to the Caribbean Island.

A Lancashire police spokesman said: “The students have thankfully been located safe and well at a hotel in the Punta Cana area of the Dominican Republic.

“Plans are now being made for their safe return to the UK.

“They will be given a welfare de-brief by police following their arrival back in this country.

“Our priority throughout this has been to ensure the safety and welfare of these students and after they have been spoken to on their return this will signal an end of police involvement in this matter.”

Stonyhurst College headmaster, Andrew Johnson, said: “The whole school community are absolutely delighted and I’m thrilled that they have been found safe and well.”

It is believed that Edward's mother will be travelling back to the UK with the pair.

A spoilt little Prince, and Princess, used to getting their own way, and never hearing the word 'no'. And the headmaster saying he is, " thrilled that they have been found safe and well.” In my day at Stonyhurst, the boy would have been given a good caning.

Two spoilt kids who each have thousands of £ in their bank account decided to go on holiday. They will return to school and have a laugh and joke about it, we're they actually missing people? Authorities knew which country they were having a 5 star break in...maybe both families should be sent the police for the cost of wasted resources the police in uk and carribean

So you know these spoilt kids? You know how much money they have in their bank accounts? It would be as apt as me saying you are a bitter failure who has amounted to nothing except a deep disapointment to your family.

Oh Midas - how else did they make their way to the Dominic Republic without having funds in their bank accounts? They are currently being hailed as heroes by their fellow students at Stonyhurst, which is pretty pathetic, considering how much this has all cost in locating them - I do hope their respective parents are going to be billed for this rather stupid trip that the two juveniles decided to take.

Glad they have both been found safe and well. Let's just leave it to their parents and Stonyhurst College to sort out, end of story.
Just one last thing to some of the posters above envy is a terrible Sin give your heads a wobble and move on.

Wow a lot of strong words from comments above, just accept it was a foolish action from two young lovers who had no thoughts about repercussions .Yes it caused a lot of wasted time looking for them, but at least it ended OK.The fact that they have some wealth is not important, probably pointing out to them how fortunate they are to be in this position is.
