THE Royal British Legion in Longridge has submitted plans to reduce the size of its existing clubhouse.

The plans, which have been sent to Ribble Valley Borough Council, include the demolition of a single storey gable extension, the relocation of the bowling pavilion and the erection of five houses.

Residents and businesses close to the Towneley Road site can submit their views on the proposal to the council by April 16.

In a statement to the council, Judith Douglas from Janet Dixon Town Planners Ltd in Clitheroe said: “The sale of the car park and land for housing development will help fund substantial repairs and renovations which are required for the clubhouse.

“The development of the site represents an opportunity to significantly improve the appearance of the conservation area.”

The application from the Legion is set to be discussed by the council in the next few months.
