BURNLEY are expected to add to their squad before the start of the new season - but Tom Heaton feels they are already strong enough to mount another promotion challenge, and says they are hungry for success.

The Clarets have lost key players in Danny Ings - the club’s top scorer for the last two seasons - and influential right back Kieran Trippier.

But in full back Matt Lowton and striker Jelle Vossen the goalkeeper feels the club has recruited well.

With the rest of last season’s Premier League team so far in tact as they prepare for the 2015/16 Championship season, Heaton feels any other new faces would be a bonus to the squad they have already got.

“We’ve had a couple of really good acquisitions so far and there may well be some more.

“If not we’ve got a really strong squad for the season,” said the Clarets’ number one.

“You can feel the appetite.

“You can certainly see in the few weeks we’ve been back that there’s a real endeavour to keep moving it forward.”

And as they target a Premier League return, Heaton hopes their previous promotion experience and season in the top flight will be beneficial.

“Hopefully it will stand us in a positive position to do that,” said the stopper, who earned England recognition on the back of 10 Premier League clean sheets.

“We didn’t particularly have that the first time we did it, so would I say it’s completely necessary? Arguably not. But would it help us this year? Hopefully so.

“You’d like to think the experiences can move you forward and not weaken us, it can only make us stronger, and that’s certainly what we’re thinking.”

Looking ahead to their opening day game at Leeds United, with Birmingham City at Turf Moor to follow the weekend after - both televised fixtures - Heaton added: “It’s important we start strongly and keep that momentum going.”
