WHILE three of his former clubs have achieved promotion last season, Eagley player-coach Simon Whaley believes things are moving in the right direction at Duncar.

Eagley got their first point on the board in the Premier Division with a 1-1 draw at Garstang in a match that could have gone either way.

The visitors worked really hard and both sides missed chances.

Last season's player of the year goalkeeper Tom McDonald pulled off some fine saves to keep it 0-0 at the break.

Then on 55 minutes a great through-ball fell to Heath Ainscow and he made no mistake from the one-on-one.

Ten minutes later the hosts levelled things up before the Eagles went down to 10 men as Jack Horan was shown two yellow cards but they hung on for a share of the spoils.

Manager Whaley said: "I thought it was well-deserved as both teams had chances but it was a fair result.

"I told the lads after the game that not many teams will go up there and get anything out of the game and we got one.

"All of our hard work during pre-season has paid off.

"I want to run the club as close to being a pro one as possible and we have a large squad so that players who are in the reserves can come into the first team and do a job.

"It also means some of the first team can drop down to get some confidence.

"I have brought in Dilon Ashton and Brad Humphreys from Ashton United and they have done a good job and are finding their feet.

"We are starting fresh with a few new faces and I was impressed by the reserves getting a 3-1 win against Wyre Villa.

"Nathan Hatton scored two goals while Matty Wilkes was also on target and they may be looked at for the first team in future."
