Mr Peel, Oakhill’s deputy head teacher, said: “We do a cycling event every year, we previously did the coast to coast challenge but this time we wanted to step it up and do Lands End to John O’Groats.

“It was tough but we all enjoyed it, we just had to keep pushing, that was our motto.”

The team trained two to three times a week for four to five weeks before embarking on the journey, going out for 50 mile cycles around the Ribble Valley.

The team started at Lands End on August 3 at 8.30am full of enthusiasm and travelled north through Cornwall, Somerset, Wales, Cheshire, Cumbria, Glen Coe, Inverness and arrived at John O’Groats on the morning of August 14.

Mr Peel said: “On day seven we went through the school and we were treated like celebrities, we gratefully accepted the pasta and cake with open arms.

“It gave us a boost to see friendly faces and we were grateful for the kind gifts which kept us going.”

Le Jog 2015 was done to raise money for the three school charities, Macmillan Cancer support, Rainbows Bereavement Support GB and The Catholic Agency for Overseas Development.

A target of £3,000 was set, but the team have so far raised £4.595.
