LADYBRIDGE moved up to second in the Division One table after a 5-1 victory against Hurst Green.

The St John's Park side started well and applied early pressure creating a few half chances early on.

Ladybridge thought they should have had a penalty on 15 minutes when Danny Edmondson was brought down when clean through but the ref gave a free kick right on the edge of the box.

Midway through the half, Danny Edmondson ran clear again but tried to square rather that shoot and the ball was cleared. Just before the break Sam Parkinson also ran clear only to see his shot saved.

In the second half, Dave Walker's side upped the tempo and made the breakthrough with an excellent solo goal from Nathan Monson on 50 minutes as he cut inside his man and unleashed a 20-yard drive into the top corner.

Hurst Green replied straight away after Ladybridge failed to clear their lines but Sam Parkinson soon restored the lead after finishing well when put clean through.

Elliot Waugh added a third on 75 minutes with a low drive into the bottom corner.

Then Parkinson added two more in the last 10 minutes to secure a hat trick and seal all three points for Ladybridge.

Manager Walker said: "It was a very good three points and a very good display from the lads today, especially the second half."

Meanwhile, Turton came away from their trip to Barrow empty-handed as Hawcoat Park battled back from going 1-0 down to win 2-1.

The visitors went 1-0 up when Luke Bradbury finished after a flick-on by Jordan Lomax.

But the hosts came back and took advantage of Turton's inability to clear their lines to win.

Johnson said: "Neil Hart and I were saying after the game that we bossed the game and had 70 per cent of the possession and we should have got something out of it.

"We gave the ball away in the wrong areas and were punished."

Turton take on Mill Hill St Peters on Saturday and they will be determined to get back to winning ways as they play their first home game at Thomason Fold since work was completed on the new changing facilities.
