STAFF from Macmillan Cancer Support will be travelling around Bolton in a bid to try and break the taboo of talking about cancer.

Bolton Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service will be at Bolton Market Place for a ‘Cancer Talk Week’ from today until Friday.

They will also be joined by Cancer Research UK on the Wednesday – and the organisation’s cancer awareness nurses will be on hand to give advice on how to reduce the risk of cancer through lifestyle changes.

The services will start at 10am and run till 2pm and it is hoped that by talking about cancer, less people will feel isolated while suffering from the disease.

Kelly Gordon, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service Officer, said the service was there to provide the right support to cancer sufferers and their families.

She said: “We are looking forward to meeting people in the community. Our service is here to provide information and support to anyone affected by cancer that is patients, carers, family or friends, or anyone who just wants to know more about cancer.”

A spokesperson for Macmillan said: “Macmillan believes no one should face cancer alone and the team will be available to offer support at many different venues in Bolton.”

The support and information service will be travelling around Bolton throughout February and will be at the following locations:

Breightmet UCAN Centre on February 1 between 10am-12pm.

Boots at Middlebrook Retail Park on February 22 between 10am-12pm.

Westhoughton Community Leisure Centre on February 29 between 4pm-6pm.

If you or anyone you know is affected by cancer, Macmillan would love to hear from you.

They are available for drop in appointments at Giles House (the Bolton Hospice building) on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am-4pm. Alternatively you can contact a member of the team on 01204 663059.
