A FIVE-YEAR-OLD boy has suffered ‘serious injuries’ in a crash on the M6 last night and has been taken to hospital.

The boy was a passenger in a Ford Fiesta that stopped to help another car that had crashed at about 7pm yesterday.

This followed a fuel spillage on the M6 from a double decker bus travelling northbound between junctions 30 and 31.

The police spokesman said: “A Fiat 500 lost control and collided into the nearside.

“The boy’s injuries are serious but they are not thought to be life threatening.”

The Ford Fiesta then stopped on the hard shoulder to assist when a Renault Megane also lost control and collided with the Fiesta.

The Megane then spun into the third lane and crashed into a fifth vehicle.

A police spokesman said: “Work is being carried out so there are closures in lane one between junction 31 and 23, causing delays.”

The entry at junction 31 northbound also remains closed where fuel has been spilt.
