A ROW has broken out between a council and a residents' group over the difference between a duck pond and a rock garden.

The Friends of Oak Hill Park slammed Hyndburn Council's A4-folded guide to the attraction as confusing and likely to get visitors lost.

However, the council has defended its accuracy and said it will not be reprinting it.

The colour leaflet includes directions to the Accrington park, situated between Manchester Road and Hollins Lane. It also contains historic details about the park, which has Green Flag status for being a well-managed, quality green space, and a bird's eye view map.

Chairman of the Friends, Tony Hindley said some of the photographs of the park were misleading.

He claimed a spruced-up photo of the duck pond has been incorrectly labelled as the Parkinson memorial rock garden.

Mr Hindley said: "The rock garden is actually pictured on the front of the leaflet. The picture of the duck pond looks like it did years ago when I used to play in it as a little boy.

"Now it is surrounded by wire and all kinds of rubbish. It is filthy - not like the pretty version in the photo.

"Visitors will come to the park and if they use this leaflet they will be wandering around for so long the police will need to send out a search party. If you can't produce a tuppence leaflet how can you run a multi-million pound council?"

The council maintains there has been no error in labelling the photograph as the rock garden. A council spokesperson said: "The leaflet is accurate and the photograph is labelled correctly. The leaflet is a handy guide to the park. We will not be reprinting because there are no mistakes in it."
