The star of this year's Charter Theatre panto Paul Danan has been fired after swearing on stage in front of hundreds of children.

Former Hollyoaks and Celebrity Love Island star Danan, who was due to play the lead role in Jack and the Beanstalk, swore twice on stage during the annual Christmas lights switch on last night, watched by a crowd of around 3,000 people.

But this morning bosses at production company Pele Productions said they were starting the search for a new lead actor.

Council leader Councillor Ken Hudson confirmed Danan had been removed from the show.

He said: "His outburst was a disgrace and an insult to the people of Preston. Pantomime is all about family fun and entertainment and we want families to come to the pantomime and have a great time.

"We're now looking for a new actor to play Jack, in Jack and the Beanstalk - someone who will wow the audience, but treat them with respect.

"The pantomime cast start their rehearsals on Monday and they will be working extra hard to put on a fabulous show for Preston.

"As such, this year's Jack and the Beanstalk will become one of best pantomimes in Preston's history."

Danan was also slapped with an £80 on-the-spot fine by police after the foul-mouthed outburst.

The Mayor of Preston, Coun Christine Abram, said she was disgusted by his comments and would be demanding talks with Guild Hall boss Chris Haylett to find out why Danan - who has admitted drink and drug abuse in the past - was chosen for the role.

She said: "It has been the talk of Preston and mums were last night saying that they would not go to the panto if he was in it.

"I am glad they have sacked him because he is not the sort of person we want here.

"I didn't know anything about him before he took the role but I now hear that he has a bit of a reputation.

"I shall be speaking with Chris to find out why he was picked to front what is a family show in the first place."

Shocking!!! Why was he given the microphone for the second time!!!? or even aloud on the stage again. He looked like he was on drugs!!! I had my four year old daughter with me last night, swearing is something i don't want her exposed to. im sure other mums will agree!!! ???

Who is Paul Danan? Why is he turning on our lights anywhere? I'm more famous than he is, I would have done it, and I never swear but I do use the word bugger too often

A work colleague of mine who was there with her young daughter when Paul Danan was at the microphone says he was 'shivvering his nuts off' a reference to the cold weather and the word 'flange' was used. I won't be going to the panto if this sort of filth is being hurled at our children by so-called celebrities. You wouldn't get this from Mike Yarwood or the Crankies.

Are you for real? To say you are shivering your nuts off is hardly swearing, very slightly inappropriate maybe but for God’s (I know – blasphemy!) sake get your head out of the shed and into the real world!! And as for him saying 'Flange', send him to hell forever!! Do you really see the world through rose tinted glasses? If this is all we had to worry about our kids hearing I'd be a very happy dad! Unbelievable.

Thanks for the tip-off Richard. At least we now know what it is we're supposed to be offended by.

Now I have all the facts, I can make a balanced, informed comment:

I'm glad they sacked Paul Danan, as anyone who uses such a terrible Americanism as mother-effer deserves all the punishment they get.

I hope Mr Danan has learned the following valuable lesson: say no to globalisation by sticking to good old fashined Anglo-Saxon expletives.

Yes, he shouldn't have said it and celebrity culture is brain dead, but please get off your high horses!

I think you'll find that our children use those very words on a daily basis in the school playground, usually picked up from the mainstream media, their families and their peers.

And Justine: it is 'allowed ' not 'aloud '!!! Please evaluate your own language skills before you go on a tirade about the skills of others!!!

Swearing is part of our vocabulary and our culture. If it wasn't then the words simply wouldn't exist! I'm more worried about the intellectual capacity of my fellow citizens, than the antics of a potty-mouthed celebrity! Perhaps you should all direct your attention to the parasites in Whitehall who have created this debased, empty, valueless culture, where morons are 'celebrities' and good people get left behind.

Think about it!

I'd just like to take this opportunity to let the good people of Preston know that I am currently looking for work and would be happy to save the day and take on the vacant panto role.

I've presented two of the most popular game shows EVER . I also have a reputation for providing clean, family fun at bargain prices.

Actually, I witnessed this performance first hand, and I hate to think of the long-term effects it will have on my daughter, Clarissa. I am glad that Mr Dunan has been sacked, and I hope that TV companies will now be more aware of pernicious influence of celebrities who confuse the nation's children with drug-fuelled rants infused with working class vernacular. How was I supposed to respond when my seven-year-old daughter turned to me and asked: 'Mummy, what the f*ck is a flange?'

What are the middle-class managers of this theatre thinking of? The sacking of Paul Danan is in fact an attack on northern working-class values. Dunan was speaking to Preston kids in the language they understand. Rather than sack him they should have been content that in response to his demand that the children in the audience 'make some motherf*cking noise', the kids shouted back 'Do it yourself, you lazy c**t.' Think of it as a working-class interpretation of panto's more usual 'Oh no I don't' 'Oh yes you do'. Give the lad his job back.

While Danan's use of the word 'motherf**ker' is disgusting and should not be tolerated, I applaud him for trying to spread and promote the use of the word 'flange'.

'Flange' is an often misunderstood term which should be cherished and loved, yet is so often comdemned and feared instead. It's origins lie in the great aubergine famines of the 1930's, and it is rumoured to have been the last word uttered by Moses, the gypsy king and prophet.

"Dangerous" was booked to do the Christmas Lights switch on. When asked by the presenter of the event why he was not in his Panto outfit his reply to the 5000 crowd of mainly young children was"because I don't want to look like a ****". The hosts of the event quickly shooed him off stage for words of advice and when he later returned to the stage he was again asked to rouse the crowd. Deranged stepped forward and addressed the same crowd with, "Come on Preston make some **** noise". His apology video is hilarious. "I didn't realise there would be young children there"
