Pub scoops quality award

A Preston pub has beaten off tough competition from across the UK to scoop a prestigious Quality Service and Standards award.

At a recent awards ceremony, the Smith's Arms, in Lea Town, Preston, won national recognition from leading brewer Daniel Thwaites at the company's national awards ceremony.

The pub was also named a finalist for Catering Pub of the Year.

Thwaites sponsor Lancashire County Cricket Club, was the fitting venue for the brewery's annual celebration, and played host to hundreds of pub managers, tenants, and senior management from Thwaites and suppliers.

Tenant Siobhan Bayliff was delighted to win the impressive title and accepted the award which was presented by Paul Howarth, retail director of Thwaites.

Siobhan Bayliff said: "I was absolutely delighted to have won this award as it recognises the hard work that our team has put into the pub.

"To have beaten so many other pubs to take the top spot is absolutely fantastic.

"To officially win the Quality Service and Standards award, as well as being a finalist in another category, is a proud achievement for both the pub and the local community and we will definitely be celebrating with our customers when we return home. "

Paul Howarth, retail director for Thwaites said: "Our annual awards ceremony is fundamentally about recognising, congratulating and celebrating pub managers, tenants and staff, whose efforts over the past year have made an outstanding contribution to their drinking establishment.

"At Thwaites we fully believe that quality and service must go hand in hand to achieve success, and these awards acknowledge the outstanding input made by all concerned.

"Congratulations again to Siobhan and everyone at the Smith's Arms; their hard work is an inspiration to us all."
