Preston's farmers' market has been closed amid a row over a insurance bill.
Bosses at Preston Council said there must be an insurance policy in place to cover members of public attending the market on a Sunday.
A spokesman for Preston City Council said: "The Chamber of Trade has operated the farmers market as a commercial venture and entered into a contract with the council.
"This required the Chamber to take out public liability insurance to cover people attending the market.
"The Chamber has failed to do this and as people attending the event would not be adequately insured, the Council has had to suspend their licence for the farmers market."
Leader of the Council Ken Hudson added: "We have always had good relations with the Chamber of Trade and I am concerned at the potential of losing the farmers market so I will ask officers to consider the options for holding future farmers markets in Preston."
The Chamber of Trade were unavailable to comment.
