Nominations wanted for business disability award

Chorley and South Ribble Disability Forum are giving local businesses the chance to win the prestigious Harold Rimmer Memorial Award.

The award will be given to a business in Chorley and South Ribble that shows excellence in understanding the needs of their disabled customers.

The Harold Rimmer Memorial Award was created in honour of one of their founding members and long-term chairman of the Chorley and South Ribble Disability Forum who died last year.

The award will be presented to the shop or business in South Ribble or Chorley that has done the most to improve its services for disabled people.

Nominations can be made by businesses or their customers.

Each nomination should include a short written statement of the facilities on offer and why they are worthy of an award.

Businesses which help people with sight, mobility and hearing problems are all encouraged to take part.

The winner will be presented with a certificate which they can use to promote their efforts in working with disabled people.

Eileen Bee, co-ordinator of Chorley and South Ribble Disability Forum, said: "This is the first year we will be giving this award but we intend to make it an annual event.

"We are looking for shops and businesses that have gone that extra mile to improve services for people with disabilities."

The award criteria covers a range of subjects such as wheelchair access and customer engagement.

The closing date for the award is the 30 April 2008.
