A Preston dance school is hoping to cap a fantastic 12 months with success at the European Formation Championships in Germany this weekend.

The adult formation team from the Fever Dance Company, based in Mornington Road, are heading to Essen, near Dusseldorf, to compete as the UK's number one team and are hoping to put an end to 15 years of under achievement from British teams at major competitions.

Stephen Holland, Fever's business development manager, said: "No team from the UK has reached the semi final stage of any European or World Championships for 15 years but we are going there confident we can at least make it to that stage.

"We are going there with some confidence after winning the UK Championships back in November but it is going to be very tough."

The 20-strong team - featuring 16 couples - will be competing against 22 others from 14 different countries and are hoping to wow the judges with their James Bond-themed routine, which helped them clinch the UK title last year.

The championships will also be for Stephen's wife, and the team's coach, Rachael who gave birth to the couple's first daughter, Darcey, in October.

Stephen said: "We are all really proud of her and for her to get us into Europe was a great achievement."

Stephen says that Fever is always on the look out for new dancers, especially budding Patrick Swayzes and John Travoltas.

He added: "We run groups for youngsters from the age of fives and also do adult dancing so everyone is welcome. We are especially short of boys and men but anyone who is interested should get in touch or come down and see us."
