Lancashire Constabulary's circuit training club has raised more than £1,000 for St Catherine's Hospice and Cancer Research UK following a three-mile run in glorious sunshine this week.

One hundred and ten people took part in this year's "Three Mile Smile" which was started by Lancashire Constabulary's Assistant Chief Constable Wendy Walker at the police headquarters in Hutton.

The annual event, organised by circuit training club and headed up by Marion Orford, Occupational Health Nurse at Lancashire Constabulary is in its third year and participants included officers from across the county including ten student police officers from Rawtenstall.

Marion said: "Runners, joggers and walkers all took part in the event including local children. We have all been touched by cancer in some way and the money will be divided equally between the two charities."

The fun run took participates through New Longton Park, Chapel Lane, passed Saunders Lane and continued to the dual carriageway before returning to Hutton Hall Gym.

Exhausted entrants were then clapped back home from Tarleton Brownies and rewarded with drinks in the Constabulary's social club to celebrate their achievement, and take part in huge a raffle which raised over £300.

Assistant Chief Constable Wendy Walker said: "This was a great event and I am truly delighted that it has raised funds for a worthy cause such as St Catherine's Hospice and Cancer Research, the UK's leading charity dedicated to cancer research.

"St Catherine's Hospice, provides care for people in all sections of the Chorley, Longridge, Preston and South Ribble community at no cost.

"To be able to do this they have to raise £2.7 million this year through fundraising and donations so our support is vital."
