Lancashire Wildlife Trust is looking for people who want to take part in a local Volunteer Week activity.

Penwortham Environment Education Centre, with the support from Youth in Action Small Grants, is providing an open event for 14 to 25 year olds, between 12:00 noon and 5:00pm on Saturday June 7.

They need your help to restore our replica Viking Longhouse, an important educational resource for our local schools.

Penwortham Environment Education Centre, part of The Wildlife Trust for Lancashire, Manchester and North Merseyside, works to educate school groups about their heritage and environment.

In their ‘Viking Experience’ events, school children are taken on a journey back to the year 1015 and experience life as a Viking. On their journey they are taken to our Viking longhouse where they spend the day learning Viking skills.

Unfortunately the longhouse has fallen into disrepair and we need your help to restore it to make the experience as authentic and realistic as possible for the children.

The support of local young people would be greatly appreciated. We will contribute to travel costs and provide tea, coffee and biscuits! We will also be providing a Viking feast and entertainment after the event to thank you for all your hard work.

We will make the day as fun as possible but give you the chance to learn many new skills such as hedgelaying and scrub clearance. It will be a great opportunity to meet like-minded people whilst helping your local community.
