A book about David Beckham’s loan spell at Preston North End in the mid-1990s is to go on sale next month.

Beckham - In At The Deep End has been written by local sports writer Andrew Atkinson and features exclusive interviews with former North End team mates as well as never-before-seen pictures of his time at the club.

The midfielder and former England captain spent a short spell on loan from Manchester United in 1995, making five appearances and scoring twice for the Lilywhites.

Andrew, 50, from Penwortham, said: "Sir Tom Finney, Gary Peters and former players have all contributed and were keen to talk about Beckham's time at Deepdale.

"It is a fascinating insight to Beckham's loan period at Deepdale - told by the people who were at Preston at the time - remembering he wasn't the world icon he is today, but a shy teenager."

Sir Tom Finney, Sir Alex Ferguson, Lou Macari, and Beckham's Deepdale team-mates including Ian Bryson, Gareth Ainsworth, Andy Fensome, Graeme Atkinson, Allan Smart, Mark Sale, John Vaughan, Steve Holmes, Neil Whalley, Matt Carmichael and Farrell Kilbane, are amongst the players that talk about Beckham's time at Deepdale.

There's even an exclusive photo of Beckham, who went onto worldwide fame after his spell at Deepdale in 1995, wearing a PNE Town Ender t-shirt.

To order a copy of the book send a cheque for £12.99, made payable to Lancashire Media to 24 Oak Avenue, Penwortham, Preston, Lancashire PR1 OXQ.
