An elderly woman remains in a “serious condition” in hospital after an accident involving a lorry in New Hall Lane, Preston, yesterday morning.

Police say they remain “seriously concerned” for the 87-year-old after the accident on New Hall Lane, near the cemetery at Brockholes Brow.

Police believe the woman stepped into the road thinking the Eddie Stobart lorry had passed, but not realising it was towing a large trailer, around 9.30am yesterday, when she was hit by the side of the vehicle.

The road had to be closed in both directions between Preston Cemetery at Ribbleton and the Tickled Trout Hotel, near Samlesbury and caused delays to commuters heading to and from the M6, junction 31.
