Penwortham police bikers to cycle for children's charity

Lancashire police motorcyclists from the ANPR unit at Penwortham will swap their leathers for Lycra next month in a bid to raise money for charity.

On August 5 and 6 PCs Steve Leigh, Rhyd Jones, Ian Foley and Dave Sharples, together with their Sergeant Steve Moon, will cycle the Pilgrim Way, a 150km route from York Minster to Lincoln Cathedral.

The event is in aid of the Steps charity, a small national charity that cares for children with lower limb abnormalities.

Steps aims to support children, adults and their families in accessing the best support and treatment for them to lead a normal life.

PC Foley's daughter was born with Talipes, more commonly known as clubfoot, and she has received treatment at the Royal Preston Hospital's specialist unit.

He said: "In raising this money for the charity, it goes some way to repaying the hospital for all the help and support they have given my daughter and my family."
