The average salary for a job advertised in Preston has gone down £726 over the last six months, and currently stands at £23,874.

New figures have been released today by jobs search engine AllTheTopBananas.com after analysis of more than 555,000 published job adverts for its July monthly salary index.

And 1,469 of those adverts were in Preston.

The average advertised salary here compares to the national average of £30,450, excluding London figures.

Londoners can expect an average advertised salary of £41,079.

Dave Martin is MD of AllTheTopBananas.com and predicts the gap between salaries here and the capital will continue to rise.

“If you look regionally there is about a £4,000 difference from the region with the lowest average salary, in the North West, to that of the highest, East Anglia.

"But the jump from East Anglian salaries to London salaries is a staggering £8,500.”

And Dave believes the gap will get bigger.

He added: “We are continuing to forecast rises in average salaries, and a growing gap between London salaries and the rest of the UK.”

AllTheTopBananas.com gathers, collects and displays jobs from hundreds of associated websites across the UK, giving it access to enormous amounts of data about the UK jobs market.

Right now the site has 253,112 vacancies online.

The full salary index is online at www.AllTheTopBananas.com/salary.
