Preston heroin dealers jailed

Three Preston drug dealers have been put behind bars and will spend almost a decade in jail between them.

The trio will spend a total of eight years and four months in prison following their sentencing at Preston Crown Court, yesterday.

Kevin Smith, 19, of Duke Street, in the city, has been locked up for three years and has had £5,000 worth of drug money confiscated.

Darren Moore, 25, of Dawnay Road, a prolific offender from the Greenland’s Estate, was sentenced to three years and four months in jail and David Neil Lee Tattersall, 19, of Pinfold Street, will serve two years in prison They all pleaded guilty to charges relating to the supply of crack cocaine and heroin, following their arrests earlier this year as part of a police crackdown on drug crime, called Operation Nimrod.

Police also confiscated more than £800 from Moore and the judge ordered for both Smith and Moore’s drug money to be spent on police duties in the city.

Peter White, chief superintendent at Preston police, said: “A significant proportion of the people targeted pleaded guilty at their first appearance at court which shows the impact and success of these raids.

“This activity shows our ability to tackle those involved in drug dealing activity.

“I am grateful to local residents for their ongoing tolerance and support.”

In total, 33 people were arrested by police in Preston after drug raids were carried out on 30 properties in the area at the end of March this year.

These raids were codenamed Operation Nimrod, an intelligence-led operation that targeted drug crime across the city and involved months of evidence gathering on alleged drug dealing in Lancashire.
