Budding ghost-hunters in Preston and South Ribble are being invited to spend Halloween in the very haunted Haigh Hall near Wigan.

The event, in aid of the The Anthony Nolan Trust, will take place on Friday October 31 from 9pm to 5am and promises to be a real treat for anyone interested in the paranormal.

There will be a guided tour of the hall detailing real-life experiences and historical information followed by a ghost-hunting workshop with an experienced team of paranormal investigators, psychic experiments, medium ship and séances.

There is thought to have been a property on this estate since 1220 and the present hall was built in 1830. There have been two families which have had significant impact on Haigh Hall and its history. During WWI Haigh Hall was used as a military hospital and in 1948 the hall was opened to the public.

There have been many tales of paranormal activity in the building. The figure of a lady has been seen looking out of the first floor windows with her hands pressed against the window, as if she is waiting for someone. Sir David has been seen on the stairs and the Douglas Lounge and children have been heard playing on the second floor.

Ruth Carter, regional fundraising manager for The Anthony Nolan Trust said: “Halloween is the night when all the spirits come out so this should be a really eventful evening! Dare you take up our challenge to spend the night in the chilling atmosphere of this 19th Century Hall? It is a fantastic location with classic ghost stories and recent activity, it promises to be a night to remember. Places are filling up fast, so book now to secure your ghost-hunting spot.”

Participants will be asked to raise sponsorship of at least £125 to help take back lives from leukaemia.

Right now, the Charity is urging more young men to join its bone marrow register. Only 11 per cent of its register currently consists of young men aged between 18 and 35. However, 75 per cent of those who go on to donate and save lives are men.

The Anthony Nolan Trust is an independent charity and relies on financial support from individuals and companies to fund its work. It costs the Charity £125 to tissue-type each new donor to its register.
