Pensioner, 84, has handbag snatched in broad daylight

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man snatched a handbag from an 84-year-old woman as she walked home through Walton-le-Dale.

The woman who was partially sighted had just drawn her pension out at the post office in Victoria Road, Walton-le-Dale, before catching a bus.

She was robbed as she walked along Higher Walton Road, at around 10.50am, yesterday.

A passing motorist saw the man snatch the ladies handbag and flee towards Knott Lane in the area.

Detective Sergeant Graham Hill from Leyland CID said: "I am appealing to anyone who may have seen this despicable offence to contact the police as a matter of urgency.

"It is possible that the offender targeted the victim due to her having just drawn her pension money and as such would have seen her around the vicinity of the post office on Victoria Road.

“The aggrieved's handbag remains outstanding and it is possible that it could have been discarded afterwards by the offender.

"Anybody finding any property possibly connected with this offence should contact the police immediately."

It is believed the man, who is described as white, aged between 18 to 20, of slim build and average height with short dark hair, got into a waiting vehicle and left the area.

He was wearing a dark coloured long sleeved sweater and trousers.
