A 29-year-old man has been put behind bars for almost three years for killing a man outside a Preston nightclub.

John Wilson, 29, has been locked up for two years and eight months after admitting the manslaughter of Aaron Emery.

Mr Emery, 23, suffered fatal brain injuries when he was punched outside Browns bar in Glover's Court, Preston, on Saturday, April 19, this year.

He died four days later, on the eve of his 24th birthday.

Wilson, of Riverside, Bamber Bridge, gave himself up to police when he heard about his victim's injuries.

He was sentenced at Preston Crown Court today.

Mr Emery, of Boegrave Avenue, Lostock Hall, who has a sister and three brothers, used to go to Lostock Hall High School and worked as a self-employed safety and fire alarm engineer.

Detective Inspector Zoe Heaton of Preston police said: “This is a tragic case where a preventable and unnecessary death has ruined the lives of so many people.

“I extend my deepest sympathies to Aaron’s family and friends.

"Aaron was a very popular young man and everyone is devastated at losing him.

“I hope that this sentence today can bring some closure to Aaron’s family and friends and can serve as a deterrent to people who may think it’s acceptable to engage in alcohol-fuelled violence.

“We are grateful to the witnesses for their cooperation in this investigation.”
