St Catherine's Hospice in Lostock Hall and the Preston mayor's charities are to benefit from sales of the book David Beckham-In at The Deep End, by Preston author, Andrew Atkinson.

The book follows Beckham during his time on loan at Preston from Manchester United in 1995 and chronicles the England and LA Galaxy star's time at Deepdale.

"I am sure that David Beckham would approve that charities are to benefit from the sales of the book David Beckham-In at The Deep End," said Andrew.

Preston born Andrew, 51, from Penwortham, is author of Penwortham-What's In A Name?; The Mad Monk of Penwortham and Gentlemen of Penwortham Priory; and Sex Scandal of Penwortham Prior.

He is planning to give a talk about Beckham and on Penwortham's history on Thursday, at Kingsfold Library, Penwortham, at 7pm.

"Monies raised from the talk, including the talk fee, and sales of books will gladly go to St Catherine's Hospice," said Andrew.

Preston North End played Preston Cricket Club in a Twenty20 match at South Meadow Lane, Preston, yesterday, in aid of Mayor of Preston, Coun John Swindell's chosen charities.

Copies of David Beckham-In at The Deep End were on sale, with monies raised going to the mayor's charities.
