Election blog: Conservatives take control of Lancashire

LABOUR lost 25 seats on Lancashire County Council - and overall control to the Tories.

Conservative leader David Cameron flew into Preston after hearing the results, which saw the Tories swept to power for the first time for 28 years after gaining 51 seats to Labour's 16.

Among the casualties were Labour's leader Hazel Harding and deputy leader Doreen Pollitt.

The Liberal Democrats increased their seats but also lost their leader, David Whipp.

The BNP has won its first county council seat in Lancashire in Padiham and Burnley West.

In the first Darwen Town Council elections, the For Darwen Party took 7 of the 13 seats to take control.

All results for Lancashire County Council, Darwen Town Council and the Burnley Borough Council by-election will be added to our elections module - click here.

15.55 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: ""That's all, folks", shouts Tory MP Nigel Evans as they win their 43rd seat. Returning officer Ged Fitzgerald confirms what everybody has known for most of the afternoon: 'I can formally declare that that the Conservative Party has gained 43 seats, and has overall control of Lancashire County Council.' Tory leader Geoff Driver addresses the crowd to loud cheers and applause: 'The Conservatives are back in Lancashire after 28 years of Labour. Labour is in dissarray.'"

15.45 Comment from reader Mick Wells: "How about a slightly more positive Labour story on the blog? i.e. Ciaran Wells, a 23-year-old standing in his first county election winning Great Harwood with over 200 majority. I know I'm biased but it would be nice!"

15.45 Confirmed - The Conservatives have won overall control from Labour of Lancashire County Council.

15.35 For Darwen secure a clean sweep in the Marsh House ward on the new Town Council which gives them control of the 13-seat council. The final tally: For Darwen 7; Liberal Democrats 4; Labour 1; Conservative 1. See the full results in the election module.

15.15 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: "Tory Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans says a Conservative county council will be 'a breath of fresh air. It sends a very clear message that people want to see a change in local and central government. This is a complete meltdown for the Labour Party.'”

15.10 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: "The Conservatives have got this sewn up – they’ve just made three massive gains from Labour including council chairman Alan Whittaker in Chorley Rural West and cabinet member for sustainable development Matthew Tomlinson in Leyland Central.”

15.05 Results for four of the five wards on the new Darwen Town Council have been announced. Liberal Democrat Paul Browne leads the way in Sudell, while Labour's David Smith tops the poll in Sunnyhurst. See the full results in the election module.

14.55 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: "Currently looking at a swing from Labour to the Tories of around eight per cent. Ribble Valley Conservative MP Nigel Evans has arrived as his party closes in on overall control."

14.50 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: "Former Conservative group leader Michael Welsh arrives in Preston in confident mood. 'We are going to take control, there’s no doubt. We are winning seats in Labour heartland. Labour have been wiped out. We are now doing to them what they did to us in 1981.' Current Tory leader Geoff Driver has also arrived having retained his Preston North seat.."

14.45 The big-name casualties keep on coming. Labour's deputy leader, Doreen Pollitt, has lost her Accrington West seat by just 22 votes from a total of 4194 cast. Meanwhile cabinet member Anne Brown, adult and community services chief, loses out to the Tories in Leyland South West. See the full results in the election module.

14.25 The first two results are in for the new Darwen Town Council. The Liberal Democrats take both Whitehall seats, while For Darwen do the same in Earcroft. See the full results in the election module.

14.25 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: "Finally a councillor has arrived at County Hall – although he won’t be one for long as he’s chosen to stand down after 28 years. Long-serving Chorley East Labour member Don Yates says it has been a “disastrous” day for his party: 'We’re losing some very good people who have some great things. It’s also being lost in the mayhem of London, Gordon Brown and expenses.' Hazel Harding is no longer expected to turn up at County Hall following her defeat. The Tories are two off the 12 gains they need."

14.05 Council leader Hazel Harding on her defeat: "I am very disappointed in the result. I do not think it reflects the efforts we have made as Labour politicians but it is down to what has been happening nationally. I think we should be scared for public services now that the Tories have the county council seat."

14.05 Tony Winder comments after ousting council leader Hazel Harding: "Each of us who has been elected will have to prove we are worthy of the votes we have received. The expenses scandal has knocked everyone's confidence in the democratic system. I'm not claiming to be a saint but I do promise to do my absolute best to serve the public."

14.00 Another three high-profile Labour casualties. Jean Battle loses Accrington North to independent Malcolm Pritchard; Dorothy Westell loses Oswaldtwistle to Tory Peter Britcliffe (who is leader of Hyndburn Borough Council); and over in Preston North West, cabinet member Tom Burns has been ousted by Mark Jewell of Liberal Democrats. See the full results in the election module.

13.45 With all the excitement in the Lancashire County Council elections, I forgot to say that the Liberal Democrats held their seat in the Burnley Borough Council by-election. That means it's as you were. See the full results in the election module.

13.35 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: "Returning officer Ged Fitzgerald, the council's chief executive, has just formally announced the first set of results - confirming Labour's wipeout from Burnley. The Conservatives are already half way to the magic 12 gains they need to take control."

13.35 Alex Willmott at Bacup Leisure Centre: "Confirmed - Conservative Tony Winder takes Labour leader's Hazel Harding seat. Also gone in Rossendale is Labour's Bob Wilkinson, who is also chair of the fire authority. It looks like the Tories are going to win every seat in Rossendale."

13.25 A morsel of good news for Labour - gain in Nelson South and Brierfield & Nelson North. See the full results in the election module.

13.15 Here's a surprise. Liberal Democrat leader David Whipp has lost his West Craven seat to the Conservatives. See the full results in the election module.

13.10 Labour have lost all their Burnley seats now - two more councillors fall to the Liberal Democrats. See the full results in the election module.

13.05 Labour are being wiped out of Burnley. They've lost Burnley Rural (where they finished last) and Burnley South West (where they finished third) to the Liberal Democrats now. Full results for these two wards on the election module.

12.45 The first results are in. The Liberal Democrats have won two Burnley seats (mentioned below by Pete Magill) from Labour. And the BNP's Sharon Wilkinson has ousted Labour cabinet member Marcus Johnstone in Padiham and Burnley West. She becomes the first BNP councillor on Lancashire County Council. Full results for these three wards on the election module.

12.35 Pete Magill at Turf Moor, Burnley: "Looks like two gains for Liberal Democrats from Labour in Burnley. Cabinet member Tony Martin appears to have lost his seat in Burnley Central West to borough councillor Charlie Briggs. Peter McCann appears to have seized Burnley North East for the Lib Dems from Terry Burns."

12.30 Alex Willmott at Bacup Leisure Centre: "Hazel Harding is back in the room but is still expected to make her way to Preston as the results are officially declared. It looks like the end of her time on the council after a quarter of a century."

12.30 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: "Shelagh Derwent (Conservative) has retained Pendle West with an increased majority."

12.25 Alex Willmott at Bacup Leisure Centre: "They're having a third recount for Whitworth - it must be tight. Labour looking nervous, Tories wearing smiles. I'm eating a chicken sandwich."

12.15 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: "Still no results, but Burnley is expected in the next half an hour. Camera crews are getting installed in the grand settings of the council chamber, with oil paintings of previous council chairmen lining the walls. The BNP are also believed to have polled well in Pendle. Conservative leader Geoff Driver’s mobile phone is switched off, but he will head for County Hall from his count, which is also in Preston if he wins.

12.10 Alex Willmott at Bacup Leisure Centre: "Labour leader Hazel Harding has walked out of the count. I presume she is on her way to County Hall. It looks like the Tories are the main beneficiaries of Labour's expected collapse."

12.10 Catherine Pye at King George's Hall, Blackburn: "They're adding the postal votes in with the other ballot papers now. People are beginning to moan about how long it is taking and saying Town Council and European papers should have been in separate boxes."

11.55 Catherine Pye at King George's Hall, Blackburn: "Just starting the count for the Whitehall ward in Darwen. Extra counters have been brought in to speed things up."

11.55 Catherine Pye at King George's Hall, Blackburn: "Just starting the count for the Whitehall ward in Darwen. Extra counters have been brought in to speed things up."

11.40 Alex Willmott at Bacup Leisure Centre: "Big news looming. Labour leader - and leader of Lancashire County Council - Hazel Harding is expected to lose her seat. In fact the party is facing losing all three of its Rossendale seats. Turnout for Rossendale area is 36.8%"

11.35 Catherine Pye at King George's Hall, Blackburn, sent this photo from the Darwen Town Council count:
Election blog: Lancashire voters await results of elections

11.25 Catherine Pye at King George's Hall, Blackburn: "Tories and Liberal Democrats not confident in the Darwen elections. A Labour candidate thinks For Darwen will have a landslide."

11.25 Apologies if you experience any technical problems with our website. Please bear with us!

11.15 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: "Still waiting for the first results, but here are some turnout figures: South Ribble 38 per cent; Preston 35 per cent; Ribble Valley 35 per cent; Pendle 46 per cent. This is less than 2005, which was around 60 per cent, but that fell on the same day as a general election, which always increases the turnout."

11.05 Early indications suggest turn-out for the Lancashire County Council elections is roughly 40% - higher than expected.

11.05 Catherine Pye at King George's Hall, Blackburn: "The Darwen announcement is delayed by one hour because it is taking longer than expected to bundle up the European ballot papers because of a higher than expected turnout."

10.55 Pete Magill at Turf Moor, Burnley: "Labour insiders not hopeful and fear the BNP may have won two county council seats in Burnley."

10.55 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: "The first count is expected to be in Pendle in the next 30 minutes with the final picture set to emerge in the early afternoon. Chief executive and returning officer Ged Fitzgerald will declare the results before the council leader - almost certainly either Labour's Hazel Harding or Tory Geoff Driver - will address the press."

10.55 The Lancashire Telegraph understands the BNP has won a seat on Lancashire County Council in the Burnley area and has polled well across East Lancashire.

10.45 Catherine Pye at King George's Hall, Blackburn: "Mood is pensive at the Darwen Town Council count but with some friendly banter between the parties. No one in particular is confident because it's a new council so no one knows what to expect. At the moment. everyone is stood around waiting while the European ballot papers are bundled up. We're expecting results from 11am onwards."

10.35 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: "No count results are in yet, so no councillors have arrived at Preston - but I've just received a text from a senior Labour county councillor from East Lancashire, saying: "It's not looking right good, to be honest."

10.35 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: "No count results are in yet, so no councillors have arrived at Preston - but I've just received a text from a senior Labour county councillor from East Lancashire, saying: "It's not looking right good, to be honest."

10.30 Pete Magill at Turf Moor, Burnley: "Political big hitters are out in force - Kitty Ussher, Gordon Birtwistle, the town's ex MP Peter Pike are here with the candidates."

10.00 Tom Moseley at County Hall, Preston: "It's the calm before the storm at County Hall, as what could be one of the most momentous election counts in the Lancashire's political history gets underway. The results will be coming in on a district-by-district basis, and displayed on big screens in front of the national media who are gathered at Lancashire County Council headquarters."

09.50 Just a reminder Euro election results will not be known until Sunday night at the earliest as counting does not begin until Sunday.

09.30 Election counts are due to begin now! Our reporters Pete Magill, Tom Moseley, Alex Willmott and Catherine Pye are at counts across the area and will be bringing news and results as they happen.

09.00 Last night problems were reported at the Bangor Street polling station in Blackburn after it ran out of voting cards. In the 40 minutes until replacements arrived around 40 people had to be turned away from the station. Councillors said it was the first time they had ever seen a polling station run out of ballot papers.

WHAT WERE WE VOTING FOR?

All the seats on the European Parliament, Lancashire County Council and the new Darwen Town Council up for grabs.

Eight MEPs will be elected to represent the North West; all 84 county councillors are up for re-election; and Darweners will elect their first 13 councillors to their new town council.

Additionally, there is a crucial Burnley Borough Council by-election which could change the make-up of the council.

Couple with the fact that the polling stations are manned by employees of Blackburn with Darwen Council who chances are, are members of Unison who ran a campaign against one particular party, this should spark a red alert with people at the electral fraud commision

Labour have always won the Blackburn seat on the strength of the immigrant vote. That is the point made by Linde41. Any contrary response is just splitting hairs and playing with terminology. At the end of the day wether it is labour or conservative they are all only interested in lining their own pockets. From local elections to general elections they are all as greedy and underhand as one and other

If people took a look at the electoral roll, they would be surprised at how many people can be registered to vote at one address. I'm not talking 3, 4,5 or even 10. There are over a dozen at some addresses. Does this not start to ring alarm bells, particularly when some of the names look so similar (just with different spellings or with the names in a different order)?

In order to survive in a democratic and upstanding town, one must remember and ingrain the fact that individuals of all walks of life and differing backgrounds contribute to our so called 'immigrant' town with its so-called 'immigrant' status. Indigenous minorities and those of ethnic backgrounds have contributed a great deal to Blacburn town's economy. In reference to oneself, upon qualifiation as a Barrister, one felt one achieved success for those who are less fortunate to make their own way in life to such a standard. Alleged 'Immigrants' in Blackburn are doing well, in high paid jobs, receiving large bonuses and commissions compared to their white counterparts due to their commitment, dedication and long term hardship. Their successes are well deserved. One does not see many Britons in Blackburn attempting to climb the economic and property ladder, the way 'Immigrants' are doing so. If like individuals have suffered to reach their goals and sit comfortably today it is not because they are 'immigrants' it is because they are extremely hardworking individuals whom long for a better life, they do not just sit at home all day or waste time all day complaining about things, they take action and make things happen!

Got to agree on every thing youve said. Akon is know to those who take on the BNP hes a thug. We was once up canvasing his way with the truth about the BNP and the freaks that are in it he came out starting insults and threats of what he was going to do to certain people. Saima, I'm not making a comment on the content of what you said - I don't have an opinion on it either way and I don't live in Blackburn. I was just pointing out that your grammar is actually very bad. For example - your use of the comma is out of context and most are in the wrong place. Commas are missing from places they should be and your use of 'whom', which is a genetive case pronoun, has been used in an accusative subclause - totally grammatically incorrect I'm afraid. That, and the fact that some of your sentances don't contain all the required elements to make them complete clauses in their own right, is why I point out that your grammar leaves a lot to be desired. However, should you prefer to think I am commenting about the content of your post then that's up to you - but it doesn't take away from the fact that someone in your profession should really have a better grasp of the basic grammar of the language. I would have thought that was an essential attribute?!

Saima. Why do you feel te need to give us a lecture here ab Immigrants.I have not critized immigrants in this country, just the true fact that B'Burn has always been labour for many years bec of the immigrant population. You took it as a personal attack so I assume you walk around with a 'chip on your shoulder'.As your comments that many Britains don't climb the economic & property ladder, this is bec they don't get a chance. I personally know of British workers who were made redundant(& yes, they are hard workers) yet immigrants are kept on.You have a cheek calling the British People. They suffer bec they can't get places to live in owing to the vast majority of Immigrants getting housed. Immigrants have more rights in Britain now than their own native British people.Their freedom of speech has gone bec the migrant population cries 'racists' for the slightest thing. Don't even bother to say I am racist bec I am not.I blame the government for everything-not the immigrants. I myself am not British born, but have been here 54 years- I worked all my Life for this country & mixed well with every1. I am very proud of the British people & love them dearly. If I feel the need to critise them or call them lazy (not all of them are) I would not stay here. Got to agree on every thing youve said. Akon is know to those who take on the BNP hes a thug. We was once up canvasing his way with the truth about the BNP and the freaks that are in it he came out starting insults and threats of what he was going to do to certain people. He tried it with me but realised it would not of been a wise move on his behalf. Thankfully the majority of ex service people are Facists like him. Most of us who have served are disgusted at the likes of training these people and support their kicking out when found out what they are. There are many a fine Immigrant Service personnel serving our armed forces in their duties. Good riddance though to the other 5 ex Burnley Lancs County Councillors, all who became little gods in their over opinionated minds. They certainly will miss those expenses

I am however sad that Padiham has returned a neo-Nazi sympathiser for two reasons:

Firstly because a neo-Nazi is a neo-Nazi, but secondly because the people of Padiham will not be represented.

One other comment on the Liberals' success. They fought an effective camapign, but will now come under scrutiny. False promises over the hospital will start to come home to roost.

Surely everybody who voted for the BNP is not racist, a lot of these are protest votes and in mainly traditional Labour strongholds. So perhaps instead of turning it into a slanging match people can discuss why working class people are turning their backs on New Labour.
Could it be in their quest for power and loving up to the middle classes and businesses they have forgotton their socialist roots?

Could it be something as simple as people do not like being told who not to vote for?

Theres a big section of the British population that are totally disenfranchised and feel they have no representation. If you take the racist aspect out of the BNP policies you will find more in common with traditional socialist values and Green Policies than anything in New Labour's manifestos.

The Darwen council election results show that if a Labour candidate sticks to his guns and socialist beliefs and serves his constituants then he still retains support.

Perhaps New labour need to look at its policies regarding England and not Britain as an whole, because at the last election New labour only got the mandate to govern because of the Scottish and Welsh vote, in England the majority of votes went to the conservative party, so something is seriously wrong.

We hear the BNP row over and over again, but when will one of the other parties realise that people are just not happy the way things are unfolding. I grew up in the Duke Bar area of Burnley and have fond memories of the place. I remember knowing the local shopkeepers by name, the local community which centred around the public houses and also the many factories which provided jobs. Before long the area became overrun with people from another continent who arrived here for no other reason than bettering themselves financially. As they were a sizable community in their own right, they felt no need to adjust to the ways of the people in Burnley. They just carried on as they did in Pakistan, building mosques, opening shops selling their local dress and butchers which would sell halal meat. When the white folk were not prepared to employ young Asian males, they turned to selling drugs or crime in order to achieve status. This is one of the contributing factors in Burnley’s decline.

The saddest part about all this is that the politicians take the easy option and suit these ethnic communities before they look after their own type. As the south Asians stick together and form one voice, rather than the many differing voices of white Britain, their needs are easier to serve. There are also added ‘Brownie points’ helping these poor communities who have come here for a better life. Looking after the pensioners which have put their entire working lives and so often served in the armed forces just does not have the same ring to it. George Galloway is a pefect example of one of these carpet baggers.

So what is my problem I hear you ask? It’s simple. My town has completely changed in the 29 years of my life, and might I add – for the worse. It has become overrun with drugs, crime, unemployment and people who I have nothing in common with and would prefer my daughter not to meet. It does not even have a hospital any more! A Premier League side it does have though.

I’m not asking for Nazi death camps, I just want politicians to serve the majority first and encourage those who come here for their own benefit to become like the local people rather than proactively encouraging difference by funding mosques and changing signs so they can be read in 28 different languages. There are danger signs in this message too. If we carry on heading in this direction of enthusiastic multiculturalism, where no member of the state is encouraged to conform to a norm, we run the risk of setting the table for another Yugoslavia. We have seen it in Northern Ireland where it nearly developed into civil war between two sides sharing the same religion. Imaging how it would be between people two complete poles apart. It’s small wonder that so many young Muslims are falling into the hands of extremists. These groups offer them direction in life, where as good old Great Britain, or the United Kingdom as they like to refer to it today (the Great part might cast ideas of our former glory days, which just won’t do) offers little in the form of pride or goals.

If any politicians are reading this, forget your super schools which are intended to enhance integration. What we need is to fly the Union flag, celebrate our own customs and national days and start informing our population that we are still are great nation which carries some clout in this world of ours. Do not be afraid of upsetting people on St George’s day – they came to join us remember not the other way around. Tell our kids what we achieved as far as the Industrial Revolution is concerned and how we fought tyranny on two large scales at a great loss to ourselves. Maybe then, our long term visitors might start thinking that we British folk are worth integrating with, rather than seeing us a limited shelf life non believers.

I am amazed at all the outcry on this site. This is a free country. It is a democracy where you have a free vote. If people have chosen to vote BNP and that party has won a seat BECAUSE THE PEOPLE HAVE VOTED HER IN in Padiham then good luck to her. That is how a democracy works. The people of Padiham have voted for who they want. No doubt half the people moaning and complaining couldn't even be bothered to vote in the first place!

Back Room - you are a racist prat.

Asians didn't close the factories down. The world trading environment did

Asians didn't shut your pubs down. You did by staying at home in front of the telly. Pub-owners did by charging exorbitant prices for a crap product.

Should all incomers be forced to adopt the native culture's religeon, beliefs and more?....just like we did throughout India, the Far East and Africa.

As for local shops - think you will find they still exist in your area. Maybe the original owners have sold up (their choice). Think you will also find that these shops do not now "close for lunch" or have half day closing. Equally, I am guessing they open earlier and close later, and offer a wider range of products. As far as Halal is concerned - its perfectly edible. If enough people had shopped in a "traditional" butchers, rather than a supermarket, then it need not have closed down.

As far a dealers is concerned - my understanding is that the "race riots" of Burnley Wood were a territorial battle between rival drug gangs of both skin colours.

BTW - flying the flag of St. George. There is some dispute about St. George's ethnicity - but you must be proud to salute a Libyan or Turk.

I am sure that all the readers on this forum are pleased that you are not asking for Nazi death camps. At least you seem to acknowledge they existed, unlike some of your like minded extreme right-wing vermin pals.

Spot on BEP.
Burnley has told rest of England that we can vote for who we wish its called democracy.Gangja and Andy are running scared just like the rest of our Labour leftie councilours.
Folk voted for the Bnp after the duke bar riots because no ASIANS EVER GOT CHARGED WITH RIOTING AND BURNING THE DUKE OF YORK DOWN AND SETTING DUKE BAR ON FIRE.The more people that vote for the bnp the more the people in Westminister might listen and realise that people are not happy.Duke bar has now changed so much its sad ,but 20 years befor this the same happend to brierfield.
All the pubs in Duke Bar are more or less closed and colne road is not safe to walk after 10 oclock at night.WHY HAS THIS HAPPEND.??The heart has been ripped out of the community as BACK ROOM OF THE BEP RIGHTLY SAYS.The local councilours do not care and have done nothing .Then they cry like babies when folk vote for the BNP.Andy stop crying and get gangja to buy you some tissues.

Dear

Firstly I would like to inform you that I am not racist nor a supporter of the BNP. I do not judge others by the colour of their skin or creed, I do however feel that with the current influx of immigrants and the number of children that the families from south Asia tend to have, that my race, the very race that have lived on this island for the last few hundred years are at threat. Is this concern not justified or is anyone who does not feel the gates should be left open a Nazi, right wing, skin headed bigot? Am I not to feel bitter that my local area, in which I had so many friends, family and colleagues is now occupied by thousands of people foreign to these shores, going about business in a manner I have not understanding of (before you start an argument from this sentence – you came here, I don’t want educating on why I should learn me about you, you need educating on more about me and what other Englishmen eat, believe in and do in their spare time).

I agree the Asians did not close the factories down, but you have taken jobs up. We can go down the shortage of manpower after WWII avenue, but it has gone now.

On the pubs – the pubs serve a local community. If the Waggoner’s had the drinking support of North Street Mosque, they would have had to extended it all the way past Enzo’s.

Halal – is simply animal cruelty, justified under religion.

Riots – you’ve given the political answer! Shush everyone…..the Asians and Whites are all best friends that skip happily down the road together hand in hand. It was those nasty drug dealers which had a turf war and managed to find an angry mob from both communities as a ruse. Now, come back down to planet Earth and realise they were race riots for the very reasons I mentioned earlier.

St George – I fail to get your point here. He was not from Georgia either, but they still named the country after him in celebration.

Last, but not least. I’ve been to Bergen-Belsen and Nordhausen. My wife’s grandmother even sheltered Jews during WWII. Worked it out yet – I’m married to a foreigner. Yes me the racist bigot. I also live abroad and whilst I’m there I behave just like one of the locals, speak the lingo and show great allegiance to their country – the country I CHOSE to settle in. I also show great allegiance to my own country by wearing the uniform, whether at home or let’s just say “warmer climates”.

Back Room, you speak with fork tongue. If you don't think your comments are repugnant then you are a bigger idiot than i first believed.

Why do you assume I am Asian? I am white born and brought up in Lancashire (and still live here, close to the area you describe) unlike your flighty self. Let me guess you left saying "this country is going to the dogs."

Why is Burnley "awash" with immigrants. Good job it is too, as numpties like you have chosen to leave it and the town consequently lacks any inward investment. The Asians of Duke Bar have bought thier houses from white families, like yours that have sold out.

Your point about pubs such as the Waggoners is total tosh. Are you saying that Muslims should have to go and drink booze in there, get plastered every night and go home and beat up thier wives. What is wrong with our Muslim cousins worshipping under thier own religeon. Do you propose to outlaw the Muslim faith. I assume you dont advocate all Jews becoming Christians as your wife's grandma rescued some in WW2. Dont give me the "i'm a pluralist" tosh cos you have been to a concentration camp. I too have visited Osweicim and seen what happens when your level of intolerance can be allowed to fester

So you are married to a foreigner. What do you want a medal? Doesn't mean you dont qualify for the racist moniker.

Seems to me the town is better off for not having the likes of you in it.

The best City in the World in my view is London (I am well travelled, btw), because it is such a melting pot of cultures and people. Nowhere in the World comes close to London, not even New York, for its variety, pace and excitement.....you just potter off to your poolside and enjoy another cadbury's finger biscuit.

You exposed yourself as a racist bigot, by immediately thinking i was Asian because of my writing name. Hasslem Hasslem refers to me shouting at my team's players when they are not closing down oppo attackers.

Dear Hasslem Hasslem,

Please do not present yourself as easy prey by petty name calling. It just shows that your maturity is questionable. Now let’s just analyse a few of your comments:

“Fligthy self”. You describe me as a numpty for leaving Burnley. Does that mean all the Asians who live in Burnley are numpties for leaving their native countries?

You then said that I probably left the town stating that “this country is going to the dogs”. That is very presumptions of you, a characteristic which is more vice than virtue.

Pubs. Getting plastered every night and then go home to beat their wives. I’d like to guess that this is not based on factual evidence. Again, I’m going to say very presumptuous of you. Narrow minded too might I add.

You quote me as stating “I’m a pluralist”. Can you show me where you found that please? You also go on about my lack of tolerance. From reading your replies I’m not exactly getting a warm, fluffy feeling of understanding either.

Medal. Got two thank you. Wear them on Remembrance Sunday.

“The best city in the world is London (I am well travelled, btw)”. Nice bit of modesty there in the brackets. I like a bit of modesty. Only thing is, visiting our nation’s capital once to go shopping does not put you in the same league as Phileas Fog.

Lastly, “white families like yours sold out”. Let’s put it this way. I live at 3 Abel St and Mr Khan moves in at number 5. As you do, you wish to get to know your neighbour so I ask him to go for a pint. He won’t come along as drinking alcohol does not go with his religion. Instead I consider asking the family around for a good old British roast, followed by a bit of Strictly Come Dancing. The only thing is I don’t buy halal meat which may cause offence and the television programme shows too much flesh for the Khan’s linking. I change my mind and offer to go for a walk down the canal with the dog. It’s another no go as the family seem to be scared of my pet Jack Russell, Molly. My wife then comes up with the idea of going shopping with Mr Khan’s wife, but can’t seem to arrange it as she is rarely to be seen and does not speak much English. I’m a bit stuck here. Then at number 1 moves in Mr Patel and across the road arrives Mr Chaudry at number 4. Suddenly I’ve nothing in common with my neighbours and thus start looking at different areas in which to live.

Moving on to your next post. Bolt or throat slit? I know what I’m going for – I’ve seen the Ken Bigley video and it’s not pretty.

Cruelty to animals. Got four animals I have. All from the pet rescue. St Peter is waiting for me.

Finally. Stop calling me a racist. It’s just a cheap word that has lost all its value from over use by people who cannot or are not willing to discuss different opinions. If you stop people from airing their views it is akin to leaving the lid on a pressure cooker.

Dedicated to all the men and women who gave their lifes so that i can have the freedom to vote thankyou.

A SOLIDERS JOURNAL.

Today is my seventeenth birthday.
But there are no cards for me.
Im surrounded by death war and destruction.
Were the grim reaper walks amongst us.
Smileing at the misery.
Three of my mates are dead.
One took eight days to die.
Our corporal said he was lucky i dont no why.
Some of the lads are starving rations are really low.
Were being shipped out soon i dont no were we will go.
I no its something big there takeing all the men.
I heard the sarg say its soon but im not to sure when.
I had to hold a lad down yesterday.
They had to take of his leg.
The bullett was killing him.
But infection took his life instead.
The trenches are really bad the waters up to our knees.
I hope it goes down again before the winters freeze.
The smell is one of death its every were you turn.
This wasnt what i was taught.
And its a hard lesson to learn.
I thought i was going blind today.
The corporal said it was lack of sleep.
I cant close my eyes though.
The dreams in which i die are a little hard to speak.
I no its comeing up to christmas soon.
I dont think st nicholas will be comeing here.
The only presents the lads will get.
Will be a bullet wrapped in fear.
My hands look like there sixty.
Not just turned seventeen.
My body that of an old man from all the evil seen.
I have these weird feelings sometimes that im never going home.
I feel this war will kill me.
And i will die in this trench all alone.
Some of the lads have gone mad.
I suppose they just couldnt cope.
Some talk about running.
I dont no were to if the nazis bullets dont get you.
The court marshall fireing squad no what to do.
I was remembering you today mum.
Your with me all the time.
I can hear your voice in my head telling me il be just fine.
But sometimes im frightend mum.
I may have reached the end of the line.
I can smell the scones and soda bread you use to bake for tea.
I can hear you laughing.
Playing snap with jake jess and me.
We managed to catch a few rats yesterday.
Some lads ate them raw.
The sarg would go mental if he new i had a food store.
The bodies are pileing up infront of us but theres nothing we can do.
I think the oldest to die so far was about twenty or twenty two.
We have to start digging graves soon before the disease gets bad.
The rats are eating better than us.
They have an easier life.
An easier existence was more than their meals ever had.
I had to collect the dog tags.
They belong to the lads that are dead.
The only part of them thats going home.
As their souls rest in heavens bed.
Some of the lads look like there just sleeping.
But you no their not here.
I thought i heard one of them say my name.
I suppose it was just the fear.
Our corporal looks lost he dosent really no what to do.
He's helped us lads a lot.
So we will pull through.
Ive got some good mates we watch each others back.
We use the buddy buddy system when we go under attack.
When we did our training.
I never thought it would get this bad.
Our sarg just shouts its a bloody war what did you expect lad.
But death is the only victor takeing all we had.
My mind is a seventeen year old war machine.
Trained to kill to protect king and queen.
Well were are they now as we die in this hell.
Only the grim reaper will be left to tell.
Birds of steel fly over our head.
Like the devils collectors they feed on their dead.
Our sarg got the word were being shipped out.
I dont no were yet im just glad theres something to smile about.
Today is my seventeenth birthday.
But there are no cards for me.
The lads are all here and weve survived you see.
In two days time were going to dunkirk.
I no its across the sea ive never been on a ship before.
Im sure it will be a better place to be.
The sarg said when this tours done its back home we go.
Il be glad to see the beach of dunkirk.
Than to sleep in the trench and snow.
Its been a good birthday today.
I might be going home.
I thank god im going to dunkirk.
Instead of dieing in this trench on my own.
I bet its warmer in dunkirk with its green ocean sea.
Surrounded by sands and sun i bet its just tranquillity.
Today is my seventeenth birthday and there were no cards for me.
My dog tags are going home.
Were my war will be over and my soul will walk free.
Today will be my last birthday please remember me with pride.
Remember me and all my friends.
To give you your life we died.

Union members of unison , unite , NUT etc should be asking themselves do they really want their membership fees to go towards a party that have been defrauding the taxpayers and that put ethnic minorities and moslems ablove our own people , history , culture ? as i am sure there are a good few members that actually voted BNP especially in Burnley.
I for one wish the BNP had got more votes in Burnley as then the absolute eyesore of a mosque that is being built near asda and just 500 yrds from the new college would have been stopped , there is not one person that has not commented on the monsterous dome and how ugly it is , but once again a labour council has allowed yet another indication that we are becoming islamified to occur and this new mosque just quarter of a mile from a newly built one at Daneshouse , just how many mosques do the moslems need in Burnley ? Enough to show they are taking over our country maybe !!!

Moving on with the debate. Did anyone out there actually vote for Labour? If anyone is brave enough to admit so, could they try and convince the readers of this page why they did so. Did they not feel that a walk around the block would have been a better way of wasting away some time?

Note, in the reply can we only stick to reasons in which Labour bettered the good of the whole rather than the good of the individual/minority group.

Is there nobody out there willing to defend the ruling party?

Maybe it is because the majority of their reprosentatives are too busy down the local Job Centre at the moment.

Are you all so out of touch with the town's people? Can it not be seen that people are voting BNP because they don't feel represented by the main stream parties. They feel ignored and many believe that they have become second class citizens due to positive discrimination. The fact that none of the Asians were jailed for their part in the race riots proves this.
One of those caught up in the troubles even went on to become Justice Minister (Labour MP Shahid Malik), who might I add, very recentely stood down from this position before the investigation into expenses claims had time to find anything – any guesses why?

The very fact that the report into the riots was fabricated also causes further isolation of the indigenous population of Burnley. To suggest it was caused by rival drug gangs was incredulous. How better to fuel the flames.

People turning to the extreme right is due to the white inhabitants of Burnley seeing their very way of life being swept away from them. One less pub, one more mosque. You can’t brand people racist for this. They see the pendulum as swinging too far in one direction. No one wants to cause unnecessary suffering or evils, but they also don’t want to imagine their generations to come grow up somewhere that does not depict the same town that they had grown up in.

The town itself is one of much natural beauty, set in the Pennine Valley, complemented by the Victorian architecture, with a strong sense of pride for the local football team. It is just a shame that it has become so divided. We need to encourage the immigrants to integrate with us, not the other way around. As it stands, neither side is showing any signs of give, no matter what new barking idea the politicians come up with. Can we not say “welcome to Britain, this is how us Britons act and behave”. If this does not suit you or even repulses you, then hop back onto the Boeing that brought you here and find somewhere more suitable.

I don't want bigotry, I just want fairness and direction.

Hi All.

The good news here is the fact the fringe BNP did not get the protest vote.

The bad news is the reality; Cameron will do nothing that will change the encroaching dictatorship, nor has he anything to offer in how he is going to remove this economy from the private international banking families.
He is of course married into the Astors :
Born Samantha Gwendoline Sheffield, she is the eldest daughter of Sir Reginald Adrian Berkley Sheffield, 8th Baronet, a landowner and three times a descendant from King Charles ll of England, by his first marriage to Annabel Lucy Veronica Jones. Samantha's parents split up after five years of marriage and her mother married again, to William Astor, 4th Viscount Astor, a minister in John Major’s government, and she is now the Viscountess Astor.

On the other hand David Cameron's father’s family had a very long history in the world of finance: David Cameron's great-grandfather Arthur Francis Levita of Panmure Gordon stockbrokers and his great-great-grandfat
her Sir Ewen Cameron, London head of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank played key roles in discussions led by the Rothschilds with the Japanese central banker (later Prime Minister) Takahashi Korekiyo concerning the selling of war bonds during the Russo-Japanese war.

His great-grandfather Ewen Allan Cameron, a senior partner with Panmure Gordon stockbrokers was also a notable figure in the financial world serving on the Council for Foreign Bondholders and the Committee for Chinese Bondholders set up by the then Governor of The Bank of England Montagu Norman in November, 1935.

Cameron is a direct descendant of King William IV (4th great-grandfather) and his mistress Dorothea Jordan (and thus 5th cousin, twice removed of Queen Elizabeth II) through his father's maternal grandmother Stephanie Levita.'

Burnley folk voted for the BNP after the riots because they felt betrayed.

Strange how folk in National Government and Local Government can not see this. For years Burnley has been neglected all the factories that created jobs have closesd .LUCAS ,BEP.MICHELIN.PRESTI

Nothing was done to replace 1000s of jobs. So yet again Burnley folk have showed their discontent by voting at the ballot box.
