PUPILS who started in 1954 at Leigh Grammar School have organised a golden reunion.

Boys who started there on September 1 are invited to catch up on their lives -- exactly half-a-century later.

Already 30 old boys have signed-up for the get-together at Leigh Conservative Club and organiser Ian Watkinson is looking for more.

A regular at the Old Leighians' March reunions and a former pupil of 1D, Ian said the idea came about through a meeting of old boys and as word spread more showed an interest.

He added that some schoolmates were found through Friends Reunited but there were still many in the Leigh, Atherton and Tyldesley area who might be interested.

Former English master John Cassidy, history teacher Roland Higson, and scripture and English specialist Keith Elleray have accepted invitations.

Ian said: "It would be great to be able to dig out the old caps and scarves -- but I'm sure we'll have fun reliving memories of the era."

The reunion starts at 8pm on September 1 at the Railway Road club where steward and LGS old boy Derek Robbins has further details.
