LEIGH Third XI got off to a good start when opening bowler Adam Roussak had the Worsley opener caught without scoring at cover by Steven Young.

However, the second wicket partnership flourished and the score was pushed along to 63 before the next wicket fell, this time to 10 year old leg-spinner Mattie McKiernan.

The Leigh side began to take control of the match and were in top form in the field, but towards the end of the Worsley innings the Leigh players began to tire in the very hot conditions and Worsley took advantage by pushing along the score to 169 all out. Roussak returned the best figures of 3-22, but he was well supported by James Eccleshare, 3-48, Andrew Potter 2-62 and Mattie McKiernan 1-17 off his 8 overs.

Leigh replied solidly at first with Pete Taylor and Steven Young putting on 21 before they lost three wickets in quick succession, but when James Ecclshare joined Paul Blackburn in the middle they began to dominate the Worsley attack and put on a match winning partnership of 83 before Blackburn was run out.

Eccleshare continued to play the major role for the Leigh side and his new partner Michael Eccles helped Leigh along to 161 before he was out. Leigh needed just a further nine runs for victory which they got as Eccleshare cleared the boundary with successive shots for six.

Leigh's fourth team returned to winning ways against Oxton with a fine all round team performance.

Despite losing the first wicket at 21 an 80-run partnership between Grayson and Bentham set the groundwork for a big total.

Grayson was second man out for a well-crafted 25. This brought Gary Fox to the crease in only his second senior game and with Bentham they put on a further 47. Bentham was finally out for a superb 79, while Fox scored 34 off 31 balls , Will Banner 35 not out off 27, and Gav Brennan 15 not out. off 9in a final total of 219-5.

Leigh then pressed on for victory with Bentham the pick of the bowlers taking 6-37.
