LEIGH Harriers collected a unique double in the final match of the National Young Athletes' League at Edge Hill College, Ormskirk.

Twelve-year-olds Amy Riley and Isaac McCann were awarded the male and female Athlete of the Match awards after their personal best performances in the 1200m and 1500m respectively.

Amy ran a national grade one standard in the girls' U13 1200m in four minutes flat, just four tenths of a second outside the club record, and then finished a great day by winning the 70m hurdlers in a pb 13.6.

Isaac broke the five minute barrier for the first time in the boys' U13 1500m clocking 4min 59sec for a national grade two.

Danny Thomas had a pb 56.4sec in the youths' U17 400m, while Martin Green ran a grade three 25.7 U15 200m and a 57.5 400m, and Scott Coop did a pb U13 long jump of 3m97, and recorded a 29.8 200m.

In the women's section Claire Thompson doubled up to record 13.5 and 28.5 for the 100m and 200m respectively, and U15 Danielle Allan ran a pb 2.30.5 for the 800m, followed home by Vicky Green in 2.35.2. Dionne Allan in the 1500m had a pb 5.00.07 run.

The U13 section saw Sophie Thornton complete a 11.7sec 75m and 21.7sec 150m pb double.

The baking sun took its toll on runners in the Latrigg junior fell race at Keswick over September's British championship course.

Leigh Harrier Danielle Allan did well to keep up with leaders to finish second over the tough three mile course in 31min 20sec.
