STRUGGLING Edenfield finally made the rest of the Veka Ribblesdale League sit up and take notice thanks to their remarkable 10-wicket win over Cherry Tree.

The Gincroft Lane club has had a disappointing summer but grabbed the limelight by bowling out Cherry Tree for just 24 and then romping to victory in only seven balls.

"It was just one of those days," said Edenfield captain Chris Hanson.

"It's not something you can repeat week-in, week-out.

"We bowled really well. Cherry Tree might have been a bit lax with some of their shots, but the bowling probably caused that."

Liam Bones did most of the damage as he claimed 7-14, with Brett Storey providing little respite at the other end with figures of 3-10 as Cherry Tree were rolled over inside 23 overs.

"The wicket was a bit damp to start with and even though it was warm the ball swung a bit and both of them utilised the conditions perfectly.

"We also probably had that little bit of luck we haven't had in other games," Hanson added.

The skipper believes that Edenfield could have been a couple of places better off in the table had fortune smiled on them more often.

And Hanson hopes that Saturday's win - sealed when professional Adam Webb took 22 off the first over from Nigel Robbins and Greg Smithson then hit his first ball for four - will spark a late flurry.

"I would rather be a bit more consistent than just have a one-off," Hanson said.

"But hopefully people will take some confidence from that and realise that we can still play cricket and we can go on from there.

"There's not much of the season left, but hopefully we can still look for an improvement."
