HOW pleased Ian W. Hargreaves (Letters, June 22) seems to be that his first "run out" into the political arena was a happy experience. And what a pity the voters of North Manor ward chose to "run" him out!

It is not surprising. In his opinion every non-Labour candidate was an opportunist and unfit for the serious business of running the council. He thinks the Labour Group are the only ones who make the right decisions in the interests of the town.

His final comments confirm the contempt that some of the Labour Group have for the market traders. He ignores the fact they are in the front line of the town's success and it is their efforts and enterprise that makes Bury Market "World Famous" .

As for trying to "spike it" for Labour, our candidates exercised their right to stand for election -- the same as he did. Considering the election result, Labour's previous complacency has certainly been rattled, so a big "thank-you" to the 2,877 residents who voted for us.

For Ian Hargreaves' information, we now have 50,000 signatures supporting us in our continuing campaign to retain the market on its present site.
