FOR ten years, a group of volunteers have worked to turn the disused sewage works in Summerseat into a nature reserve, and hundreds of people have enjoyed the open days the group have held.

Now the group can no longer make progress against the incessant vandalism.

In recent months, hides and other structures have been burned to the ground. Trees have been cut down and thrown into the pond where, days earlier, a pack of Cub-Scout had a wonderful time pond-dipping.

The group need the help of Summerseat's residents and the police to protect the reserve so that it can continue to be an asset to the village.
